Training Calendar

For Driver Education Instructors, DWI School Facilitators, and Driving Safety Instructors: These courses are the foundational and continuing education courses approved by the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division.

PRIOR APPROVAL FOR TRAINING: You must apply for licensing and be approved for training before you may register for any of these trainings. To apply to become a Traffic Safety Instructor, or to check on the status of your license or application, contact the appropriate person listed below.

This conference provides 8 hours of Continuing Education Units to satisfy the recertification requirements for:

Driver Education Instructors

This is mandatory for all Driver Education Instructors whose 3 year (Public School teachers) or 5 year (Private School teachers) recertification is due, see Rule 18.20.3.17H.

Teaching Techniques @ UNM Continuing Education

This class will help prepare new teachers to create effective classroom environments, presentations, and teaching plans. It is mandatory for the following instructors (who have not already taken the class):

• Driver Education Instructors who do not have a teaching license, see Rule 18.20.3.18F.

• Driving Safety Instructors, see Rule 18.20.8.16F; this may be waived with documentation of a teaching certificate.

This class is also open to current DWI School Facilitators, Driving Safety and Driver Education Instructors for CEU purposes. This class can only be taken for Continuing Education Units every 2 years.

This class is open to new DWI Facilitators that HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR TRAINING. This class is required for all DWI School Facilitators and Owners.

It will teach Facilitators and Owners how to teach the State curriculum within the DWI school setting.

The Facilitator’s role is to provide support by helping the DWI School participants to honestly evaluate their drinking and driving behavior and find ways to make positive changes through the development of an effective Personal Action Plan.

This 40-hour course provides instruction strategies for teaching Driver Education in the classroom and behind the wheel. Completion of this training is required in order to be certified to teach Driver Education in either private Driver Education schools or in public schools. Instructors currently teaching classroom curriculum or behind the wheel on a training waiver are required to take this class in order to continue teaching.

This class is only open to new Driver Education Instructors that HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR TRAINING.
